Distribution. Western Baltic Sea, North Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Sea of Marmara, Black Sea, eastern Atlantic: Norway south to Senegal, including Azores and Madeira.

Conservation. IUCN: Global ( LC: 14 July 2014); Med. ( LC: 16 November 2007). Capture and threats: FIT, HAB, NIS, Unknown. Occurrence: Common. Significant decline in the last two decades. Medium priority for conservation action .
