Taxonomy. First record from Lebanon as Macroramphosus scolopax (Linnaeus) View in CoL by Mouneimné (1977: 62); subsequently recorded as Macroramphosus scolopax (Linnaeus 1758) View in CoL by Mouneimné (2002: 111); recently recorded as Macroramphosus scolopax View in CoL by Aguillar et al. (2018: 81). Recent unpublished records from Tyre (5 September 2012) and Beirut (12 May 2000). Material in collection: AUBM.

Distribution. Circumglobal in tropical and temperate seas (including Mediterranean Sea).

Conservation. IUCN: Global ( LC: 29 January 2009); Med. ( LC: 8 March 2016). Capture and threats: Unknown. Occurrence: Rare. Low priority for conservation action .
