GISTEL (1857) compared this species with ‘ Nit. aenea ’, suggesting an appurtenance with Meligethes View in CoL . However, no Meligethes View in CoL occurring in Bavaria displays the described coloration (brown, at least head dirty black), nor some other features (‘Bruststück […] runzelig, borstig, […] mit abgerundeten Hinterecken; Decken grob punktirt…rotbraun.’). However, these characters correspond to Epuraea (Micrurula) melanocephala ( Marsham, 1802) , i.e. a species with a strikingly Meligethes View in CoL -like habitus. We therefore consider Nitidula heterochroa Gistel, 1857 as a junior synonym of Epuraea (Micrurula) melanocephala ( Marsham, 1802) .
