Diagnosis. ( Fig. 132 View FIGURES 131 – 136 ). Wingspan 36–38 mm. X. contaminata differs from X. cornelia by more rounded wing shape, darker and more blackish forewing, without bluish-grey tint and without central white spot, wing pattern formed by waved lines and by presence of whitish suffusion around the reniform stigma toward postmedial line.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 134 View FIGURES 131 – 136 ). In male genitalia, it differs from X. cornelia in somewhat wider valva with wider harpe and denser field of cornuti in vesica.

Female genitalia ( Fig. 136 View FIGURES 131 – 136 ). Female differs from X. cornelia by wider antrum and less sclerotised area in caudal part of bursae.

Distribution and bionomy. Russian Far East (Primorye and South Khabarovsk Terr., Amur reg.), Korea, Northwest, Central and Southwest China (Provs Shaanxi, Hubei, Sichuan, Yunnan). The species occurs in broadleaved forests with oak. Moths fly in end of April, May and early June, syntopically and synchronously with preceding species. Larvae feed on Quercus mongolica , Q. dentata (Fagaceae) and probably on other oak species.
