Type (lectotype, designated here):— HONDURAS. Tiger Island , Gulf of Fonseca, s.d., A. Sinclair s.n. ( K barcode 000363260!; isolectotype K barcode 000363261!). Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 .
Notes:—The protologue of Commelina leiocarpa provided the following information on the locus classicus: “Tiger Island, Gulf of Fonseca”. The type of this species was indicated (as holotype) in Hunt (1993: 146; and 1994: 173) as: “ Honduras, Isla Tigre, Sinclair s.n., K!, the holotype ”; since no specimens or collections were cited in the protologue, this should be corrected to a lectotypification (Art. 9.9 of the ICN). Nevertheless, since there are two specimens of C. leiocarpa collected by Sinclair at K (barcodes 000363260 and 000363261) that comprise original material for this name, Hunt’s typification can be taken only as the first step of a lectotypification (Art. 9.17 of the ICN). Both specimens at K are in accordance with the morphological information provided in the protologue. All things considered, I designate the specimen K barcode 000363260 ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ) as lectotype of C. leiocarpa , because this specimen is indicated as having belonged to the Bentham herbarium. Commelina leiocarpa is known to occur in southern North America (central Mexico southwards) and north-western South America ( Colombia and Venezuela) ( Hunt 1993, 1994).
