Tachyusa sparsa Sharp, 1883: 226 View in CoL .
Tachyusa (s.str.) sparsa: Bernhauer & Scheerpeltz, 1926: 586 View in CoL .
Type material. Lectotype (here designated): ♀: Mexico, Truquin ( BMNH) . Paralectotype: ♀: the same data ( BMNH) .
Additional material. Mexico: Desiertode Los Leones , 3000 m, 29.III.1925, Dampf, 2 exx ( FMNH), Quiche Mts., 7–9.000 ft., Champion, 1 ex ( BMNH) .
Redescription. Body. Length 2.6–2.9 mm, convex, parallelsided, glossy; body colour black, elytra brown, legs reddish brown, antennae brown.
Head quadrate; convex, eyes relatively small, moderately protruding from lateral contours of head, length of each seen from above slightly shorter than postocular region; surface of head with obsolete isodiametric mesh microsculpture; puncturation fine and moderately dense. Antennae short, clearly increased in width apically, antennomeres 2 and 3 subequal in length, antennomere 4 longer than wide, antennomeres 5–6 quadrate, antennomeres 7–10 transverse, antennomere 11 nearly conical.
Pronotum quadrate, lateral sides gradually narrowed in straight line to obtuse hind angles; before base with moderately small and shallow transverse impression; surface with fine isodiametric mesh microsculpture; puncturation very fine, pinpricklike and dense; pubescence at midline directed entirely anteriorly.
Elytra transverse, at suture as long as pronotum at midline; surface without microsculpture; puncturation fine and dense.
Abdomen parallelsided, bases of tergites 3–5 each with deep transverse impression, impressions coarsely and densely punctuate, tergal puncturation fine and moderately dense, surface without microsculpture.
Male unknown.
Female. Spermatheca as in Fig. 48.
Remarks. See under I. seticornis .
Distribution. Ischnopoda sparsa is known only from three localities in Mexico.
Ischnopodafissicollis ( Fairmaire & Germain, 1861) , comb. n. ( Figs. 49–50 View FIGURES 49–50 )
Tachyusa fissicollis Fairmaire & Germain, 1861: 411 View in CoL .
Tachyusa fissicollis: Fauvel, 1866: 278 View in CoL .
Tachyusa (Ischnopoda) fissicollis: Bernhauer & Scheerpeltz, 1926: 583 View in CoL .
Gnypeta fissicollis: Pace, 1987: 463 ; Pace, 1999: 124; Pace, 2000: 368.
Type material. Lectotype: ♂: Santiago ( IRSNB) . Paralectotypes: 3♂♂: same data as the lectotype ( IRSNB) .
Additional material. Argentina: Neuquen Rio Picun Leufu , 11.XI.1990, Endrödy Younga, 1 ex ( TMSA) ; 1 ex ( ISEA); Prov. Jujuy, Horradita , 3400 m, 30.XI.1904, C. Bruch, 2 exx ( FMNH) ; Prov. Jujuy, Cuera, Iturbe , 3700 m, 10.XI.1919, Weiser, 2 exx ( FMNH) . Chile: Quillota , XI.1896, 1 ex ( FMNH) .
Redescription. Body. Length 2.5–2.7 mm, convex, parallelsided, glossy; head brown, pronotum red, elytra brown, abdomen red with tergites 6–7 black, legs red, antennae brown.
Head circular in outline, convex; eyes large, moderately protruding from lateral contours of head, length of each seen from above subequal to that of postocular region; surface without microsculpture, puncturation fine and dense. Antennae short, clearly increased in width apically, antennomeres 2 and 3 subequal in length, antennomeres 4–7 longer than wide, antennomeres 8–10 quadrate, antennomere 11 nearly conical.
Pronotum transverse, lateral sides gradually narrowed in straight line to obtuse hind angles; before base with moderately small and shallow transverse impression; surface without microsculpture, puncturation very fine, pinpricklike and dense; pubescence at midline directed entirely anteriorly.
Elytra transverse, at suture as long as pronotum at midline; surface without microsculpture; puncturation fine and dense.
Abdomen parallelsided, bases of tergites 3–5 each with deep transverse impression, impressions coarsely and densely punctuate, tergal puncturation uniformly fine and dense, surface lacking microsculpture.
Male. Aedeagus as in Figs. 49–50 View FIGURES 49–50 .
Female unknown.
Remarks. Ischnopoda fissicollis is similar to I. chilensis from which it can be distinguished by the smaller eyes, the less convex pronotum, the transverse elytra, the paler abdominal tergites 3–5 and by the shape of the genitalia.
Distribution. This Neotropical species is known so far only from Argentina and Chile.
