Rhinusa melas group
Remarks and comparative notes. The relationships of this group with the remaining species of Rhinusa are still uncertain, although a placement as sister to the R. mauritii + R. vestita + R. neta groups appears plausible based on the putatively synapomorphic shape of a sinuous flagellum. Preliminary molecular data support this relationship, although the R. melas group seems more closely related to the R. pilosa group ( Hernández-Vera et al. 2013). Due to the habitus it seems related to the R. herbarum group, but the shape of the penis is distinctly different (pointed apex, sides of uniform height from base to apex, sclerotized flagellum).
