Type material: Male holotype (#4673), paratypes 11 males, 6 females and 5 nymphs (#4674–4703) ex Ramphastos toco Statius Müller, 1766 ( Piciformes : Ramphastidae ), specimen died in captivity, BRAZIL, São Paulo State, Campinas, 22°54ʹ S, 47°03ʹ W, December 2012, D. V. Boas-Filho col. (#1094); 10 males and 10 females, same host species, locality and collector, February 2013 (#1095).

Depositories: Holotype and most paratypes at UFSC, 2 male and 2 female paratypes at MGAB and ZISP.

MALE ( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 , 3 View FIGURE 3 A–D, F). (Holotype, range for 5 paratypes in parentheses). Gnathosoma roughly square, length including palps 67 (61–70), greatest width at base 60 (58–66). Idiosoma length from anterior end to bases of setae h3 on lobar apices 422 (411–429), greatest width at level of humeral setae 212 (187–229); length of hysterosoma 307 (299–324). Prodorsal shield: antero-lateral extensions protruding to margins of propodosoma between trochan- ters I and II and fused with epimerites Ia, antero-lateral margins heavily sclerotized, lateral margins with shallow incisions at level of setae se, posterior margin with shallow median concavity, greatest length 109 (95–103), width at posterior margin 121 (126–135). Setae vi thin piliform, 23 (19–22) long, extending to bases of palps. Setae si thin piliform, 5 (4–5) long. Distance between bases of scapular setae: se: se 61 (55–64), si: si 30 (24–30). Subhumeral setae c3 lanceolate, length × width 23 (23–25) × 5 (5–7). Hysteronotal shield: greatest length from anterior margins to bases of setae h3 300 (298–312), length along midline 187 (185–208), width at anterior margin 176 (172–188), anterior margin slightly concave, surface of anterior half with faint reticulate pattern, central region with a median longitudinal groove. Lateral bands distinct as narrow longitudinal bands on lateral margins of hysteronotal shield. Lobar areas of hysteronotal shield not separated from main body of hysteronotal shield, but delimited by poorly distinct grooves. Supranal concavity small, little distinct. Setae c2 thin piliform, 16 (16–22) long, situated in anterior angles of hysteronotal shield, cupules ia immediately postero-mesal to their bases. Setae e1 situated at level of hysteronotal gland openings gl. Length of terminal cleft from anterior end to lobar apices (setae h3) 79 (80–90), width at level of setae h1 87 (86–98), inner margin of lobes with a small concavity immediately anterior to setae h1, posterior ends of opisthosomal lobes with small round, membranous extensions. Setae e2 spiculiform 27 (24–26) long, with apices barely reaching bases of setae h2; setae f2 spiculiform, 20 (14–20) long, situated posterior to setae h2, setae h1 spiculiform, 26 (21–26) long, 3 (2–3) wide, situated roughly at the same level of setae h2. Distances between bases of dorsal setae and gland openings: c2: d2 91 (83–95), d2: e2 143 (131–153), e2: h3 61 (63–68), d2: gl 53 (52–57), h3: h3 124 (115–128), h2: h2 119 (118–127), d1: d2 19 (15–22), e1: e2 88 (76–89).

Epimerites I, II without inflated bases. Tips of epimerites I simple, with small diverging sclerotized area, not extending to bases of coxal setae 1a. Epimerites II curved. Genital apparatus at level of tibiae IV, 23 (19–24) × 15 (15–18), aedeagus not extending to its base. Bases of each setae g and 4a touching. Setae 4b slightly posterior to level of setae 3a. Setae g immediately anterior to genital apparatus. Distances between ventral setae: 4b: g 90 (86–101), g: 4a 28 (24–30), 4a: ps3 19 (15–22), ps3: ps3 88 (88–104). Adanal suckers 19 (17–21) in diameter, corolla with 15–17 rounded denticles.

Femora I, II without ventral crest. Seta cG of genu I spiculiform, 35 (34–40) long, approximately equal in length to genu + 1/3 of tibia. Solenidion σ1 of genu I 13 (12–15) long, much longer than solenidion σ2. Solenidion σ of genu III situated in basal part of this segment. Solenidion φ of tibia IV much shorter than corresponding tarsus. Tarsus IV with setae d and e minute spine-like. Legs IV with tarsus extending to the level of setae e2. Length of tarsi: I 34 (34–36), II 41 (40–46), III 41 (40–47), IV 42 (44–48). Ambulacral disc of tarsus I ovate and slightly larger and more elongate than the roughly circular-shaped ambulacral discs of tarsi II–IV. Length of solenidia: σ1 I 13 (12–15), σ II 7 (5–9), σ III 9 (9–11), ω1 I 8 (7–9), ω1 II 12 (10–15).

FEMALE ( Figs. 2 View FIGURE 2 , 3E, G View FIGURE 3 ) (range for five paratypes). Gnathosoma, length × width, 86–93×72–81. Idiosoma, length × width, 469–517 × 206–257, length of hysterosoma 359–380. Prodorsal shield shaped as in male, 107–112 × 145–149. Setae vi piliform, 28–39 long, extending to midlength of subcapitulum. Setae si thin piliform, 5–7 long. Distance between bases of scapular setae: se: se 67–71, si: si 33–34. Subhumeral setae c3 lanceolate, length × width, 24–27 × 7–9. Hysteronotal shield: entire, opisthosomal part with unsclerotized roughly U-shaped area, opened posteriorly and delimiting main body and a pair of opisthosomal pieces. Main body of hysteronotal shield: anterior margin slightly concave, anterior angles acute, posterior margin with wide and rounded extension reaching level of setae h1, greatest length in midline between e2 and h1 345–356, width at anterior margin 184–212, surface with small circular lacunae on central part. Opisthosomal pieces indistinctly connected, hourglass shaped, terminating in two small, pointed shapes and a small semicircular concavity. Lateral and postero-lateral margin of hysteronotal shield between setae e1 and h3 more darkly sclerotized. Posterior end of opisthosoma with a pair of small triangular lobes separated by small semi-ovate terminal cleft. Setae c2 piliform, 20–34 long, situated in anterior angles of hysteronotal shield, cupules ia immediately postero-mesal to their bases. Setae d2 piliform, 18–20 long. Setae e1 posterior to level of hysteronotal gland openings gl. Lateral bands well developed. Setae e2 lanceolate, length × width 43–46 × 10–11, setae f2 piliform 16–21 long, setae h1 piliform, 9–18 long, situated on desclerotized area of opisthosoma. Distances between dorsal setae and gland openings: c2: d2 90–115, d2: e2 176–188, e2: h3 67–85, d2: gl 64–69, h1: h1 60–72, h2: h2 49–66, h3: h3 17–30.

Epimerites I, II without basal inflation. Epimerites I not extending to setae 1a. Epigynum horseshoe-shaped, 58–65 long, 56–71 wide. Setae 4b situated on epigynum, at midlevel of its branches. Setae 4a situated slightly anterior to genital papillae. Copulatory opening immediately posterior to anal opening. Distances between ventral setae: 4b: g 46–60, 4b: 3a 17–22, g: 4a 9–16, ps2: ps3 19–22, ps2: ps2 65–103.

Femora I, II without ventral crest. Setae cG of genu I spiculiform, 39–49 long, equal in length to genu + ½ of tibia. Legs IV with ambulacrum extending to level between setae e2 and f2. Length of tarsi: I 39–42, II 46–49, III 50–51, IV 56–63. Length of solenidia: σ1 I 16–19, σ II 7–10, σ III 12–13, ω1 I 10–13, ω1 II 14–17.

Differential diagnosis. The new species can be distinguished from the two previously known species of Tocolichus in having, in both sexes, seta cG on genu I longer than the segment and reaching the midlength of tibia, and in males, seta e2 reaching only halfway to bases of h2. It also distinguished from both sexes of T. allepimerus in having setae d1 and d 2 in trapezoid arrangement. In males and females of both T. allepimerus and T. ramphastinus , seta cG on genu I is much shorter than the segment, about 1/3 to half the length of the segment; the hysteronotal shield is adorned with small circular lacunae; in males of the two previous species, seta e2 is relatively longer, reaching the bases of setae h2. In both sexes of T. allepimerus , setae d1 are slightly anterior to d2 or at the same transverse line.

Etymology. The specific epithet, toco , is taken from the species name of the type host, Ramphastos toco , and is a noun in apposition.
