( Figs. 8, 9 View FIGURES 1 – 9 , 78 View FIGURE 78 )

Ptychophallus (Ptychophallus) montanus cocleensis Pretzmann, 1965: 5 View in CoL .

Ptychophallus (Ptychophallus) cocleensis View in CoL — Pretzmann 1971: 21.— Pretzmann 1972: 88, figs. 505–507, 534, 535.

Ptychophallus cocleensis View in CoL — Rodriguez 1982: 86.— Villalobos 1982: 220 (in list).— Rodríguez 1994: 302, fig. 3D, E.— Campos & Lemaitre 1999: 560 (map).— Rodríguez & Hedström 2000: 423, 424, fig. 2D, I.— Ng et al. 2008: 176 (in list).— Villalobos Hiriart & Álvarez 2008: 297 (in list).

? Ptychophallus goldmanni View in CoL — Abele & Kim 1989: 39 (see Remarks).

Material examined. PANAMA. Colón Province, Atlantic drainage: male, holotype, USNM 119869, Coclé del Norte River, 1951, M.W. Stirling leg.— Panamá Province: 1 male, 1 female, USNM 230097, Barro Colorado Island, Wheeler trail, 9.vii.1969, R. Foster leg.

Description of gonopod. Straight in mesiocaudal view, apex bent approximately 90° in laterocephalic direction. Marginal suture on mesial side, straight; marginal process subtriangular, not produced beyond the caudal border of apex. Mesial process subtriangular, slightly downturned, narrow. Lateral process strongly divided into 2 lobes by deep median notch; proximal lobe smaller than distal lobe, digitiform, curved in distal direction, with few scattered, minute setae; distal lobe broadly rounded, swollen, projected beyond distal end of caudal ridge. Distocaudal ridge short, narrow. Apex oblong, narrow; caudal border slightly convex, with small notch near lateral end. Field of apical spines well developed, directed towards laterocephalic side.

Holotype and type locality. Male, cw 26.4, cl 15.8, USNM 119869. Panama, Colón Province, Coclé del Norte River (Atlantic drainage).

Distribution. The only two known records suggest a distribution in central Panama, provinces of Colón and Panamá, probably restricted to the Atlantic drainage ( Fig. 78 View FIGURE 78 ).

Remarks. The record of two males of Ptychophallus goldmanni from Barro Colorado Island, in the former Panama Canal Zone made by Abele & Kim (1989: 39) possibly refers to P. cocleensis . One of us (CM) could not find these specimens in the USNM holdings. A male and female specimen collected during the same period (July 1969) and nearly at the same place (Barro Colorado Island, Wheeler trail) (USNM 230097), however, was positively identified as P. cocleensis . Although Abele & Kim (1989) mentioned that their specimens were collected by T. Zaret at the Zetek trail, the lot USNM 230099 has two small labels in the respective jar stating " Pseudothelphusa sp. illustrated by Abele", and "male illustrated in decapod Panama Canal".
