Description of gonopod. Thick, straight in both caudal, mesial views, moderately compressed mesio-laterally; caudal border concave in mesio-caudal view, smooth (no median tuft of setae), thicker on first third; mesio-caudal surface with elongated patch of short, long caudal setae along proximal half; mesio-cephalic surface with broadly rounded subdistal lobe bearing dense patch of setae. Spermatic channel opening on apex cavity, towards lateral end, between base of marginal process, mesial lobe. Marginal suture situated on mesial side, nearly straight along all stem, with row of marginal setae proximally. Marginal process (caudal process, sensu Smalley, 1964a) as apical triangular projection, distinctly longer than mesial lobe. Lateral suture incomplete, weakly marked by shallow sulcus on first two-thirds of caudal surface. Mesial process as flattened, blunt apical lobe directed cephalad on distal portion of mesial border. Apex twisted in latero-cephalic direction; mesial lobe reduced, short, not folded over apex cavity. Apex cavity rather broad; field of apical spines with fusiform patch of minute spines along caudocephalic direction. Cephalic process bifid, with 2 distinct spiniform teeth subapically on cephalic surface, distal tooth larger than proximal one.
Syntypes and type locality. Two males, 3 females (USNM 13788). Nicaragua, Río San Juan Province, near Graytown (formely San Juan del Norte, currently San Juan de Nicaragua) (Atlantic drainage).
Distribution. Northern Costa Rica, Atlantic drainage ( Fig. 86 View FIGURE 86 ). Smalley (1964b) also recorded it in Costa Rica (from Trinidad, Heredia Province, and Resguardo, Guanacaste Province). The species is also found in Nicaragua ( Pretzmann 1980; Rodriguez 1982).
