NOTES: Lister (1911: 57) reported this species as “ P. bethelii Macbr. in litt.” and based her description on the American material “On dead wood.– Colorado ( BM 2133 , 2134 ).”. The author added “It has been found twice, each time in Colorado, once by Mr. E. Bethel, once by Dr. Sturgis ”. In BM both collections were located ( BM 2133 and BM 2134 ) and we designate the second as the lectotype, as it is in better condition and has notes and drawings in the notebook St.2: 128 where G.Lister kept of all specimens received from Sturgis. In notebook XXVIII: 123–124 there are notes on collection “Macb. 73” ( BM 2133 ). There were also 4 more boxes from the same place and two of them are labelled WCS [Sturgis] A62, and a slide with a reference to the Sturgis notebook (St.2: 119). These could all be duplicates of BM 2134 , that bears the number WCS A62 , but they are from a later date. The other boxes are labelled WCS 781 from Aug. 27.08 and Aug. 8.12, and have a reference to the Sturgis notebook (St. 2: 166, 167, 168) where we found notes and illustrations of this material .
