NOTES: Lister (1911: 79) proposed this new name for material that was previously under P. diderma Rostaf. , in the first edition of the monograph. Under the new name the following material was listed “On dead leaves, twigs, etc.– Wanstead, Essex ( BM 1250 ); Norfolk ( BM 2296 ); Flitwick, Beds. ( BM 1251 ); Germany ( BM 512 ); S. France ( BM 2297 ); Portugal ( BM 2298 ); Washington State ( BM 2299 ); Colorado ( BM 2301 ); California ( BM 2300 ); Venezuela ( BM 2302 ).”. In BM we located 6 boxes ( BM 1250 , BM 1251 , BM 2296 , BM 2297 , BM 2298 and BM 2299 ). From these we designate the collection BM 1251 as the lectotype as it is representative and in the best condition. We located two slides (L:B.M.34, 2) that by the dates are from the lectotype. The first, is a dry slide mount with a fragment of material, and there is one microscopic preparation from “Flitwick, Beds.” (2). There are other slides, (3) from Flitwick with different collection or preparation dates, and from “Nether Crawley, Beds.” (4). All of them have a reference to notebooks ( VIII: 83–84, IX: 112, XIV: 77), and a label over the original with “bitectum Lister ”, and are material that is corrected in name from the first to the second edition of the monograph. As they are not numbered (L:B.M.34) we were unable to relate them directly to the description and so unable to consider them to be syntypes. In notebook VIII: 83–84 there is mention of 4 boxes sent by C. Crouch from Flitwick Beds. Slide (5) dated “27.11.97” has reference to notebook XIV: 129, and is from a collection from Wanstead Park , but in the notes the collection is labelled “Box 1960” not mentioned in the publication, so can not be considered .
In K (http://apps.kew.org/herbtrack/results) there is material [K1942 from England, 1896, Miss G. Lister], that may be type material .
