NOTES: When Lister (1911: 182), described this variety she cited various specimens “near Zurich (BM 2755);
Portugal (BM 2756); Adirondack Mountains, New York (BM slide); North Carolina (BM slide)”. In BM we found a box of material and one slide from the Adirondak mountains, New York, Rex . We designate this as the lectotype. In the notebook Rex 2 there are illustrations and notes on this material. There is also BM 2755, a box from Switzerland which is a syntype. A box of material from Torrend from Portugal with the number BM 2752 labelled as var. notabilis is presented in the monograph as C. pyriformis var. pyriformis . This variety no longer has taxonomic value and is considered to be within the variability of the species.
