THE GENUS EUMETABOLODON

Eumetabolodon from China was found to be polyphyletic by Cisneros (2008a, b), a result confirmed by several authors ( Modesto et al., 2010; Säilä, 2010a; MacDougall & Modesto, 2011; Falconnet et al., 2012; MacDougall et al., 2013; Tsuji, 2017; Zaher et al., 2019) and this study ( Fig. 2). The senior species, Eumetabolodon bathycephalus , is found nested within the Procolophoninae, whereas ‘ Eumetabolodon dongshengensis ( Fig. 26) is a more basal taxon. In order to avoid the recognition of polyphyletic genera, a new genus name is here proposed for the latter.
