ANTONOE CRAMER, 1777

Pap[ilio] Dan[aus] Cand[idus] antonoe Cramer, 1777: 138 , 147, pl.187, figs C, D [original plate 158, figs B, B] (junior homonym of Cramer, 1775 [ Satyrinae ]). ♂, China; Java (Batavia and Samarang) .

Papilio View in CoL Danaus Candidus View in CoL antonoe, Stoll, 1782b: 5 [No. 53].

Material examined. No potential Cramer or Stoll specimens located.

Current status. Invalid as a junior homonym of Papilio antonoe Cramer, 1775 . Yata (1981) lists antonoe (as ‘ antone ’) as both a synonym of Delias hyparete hierta (Hübner, 1818) and a synonym of D. h. hyparete (Linnaeus, 1758) , although Yagishita, Nakano & Morita (1993) list it solely as a synonym of D. hyparete Linnaeus. Because the illustration shows Javan D. h. hyparete (Linnaeus) , I designate the specimen that was illustrated as the lectotype of Papilio antonoe Cramer, 1777 , which is thus placed as an invalid junior subjective synonym of D. h. hyparete (Linnaeus) .
