Pap[ilio] Eq[ues] Achiv[us] antiphates Cramer, 1775: 113 , 151, pl.72, figs A, B [original plate 72, figs D, D]. China.
Papilio Eques View in CoL Achivus antiphates, Stoll, 1782b: 3 [No. 44].
Material examined. No potential Cramer specimens located.
Current status. Valid species in Graphium (Pathysa) ( Häuser et al., 2003) .
( FIG. 6 View Figures 3–8 )
Pap[ilio] Eq[ues] Troj[anus] arbates Stoll, 1782a: 198 , 247, pl.386, figs C, D [original plate 349, figs B, B]. Surinam.
Papilio Eques Trojanus View in CoL arbates, Stoll, 1782b: 2 [No. 41].
Material examined. Syntype ♀, van Lennep label ‘No. 41. ARBATES Cr. IV. 386. D. E. ’ and Felder label ‘ Surinam Coll. Lenep’ ( BMNH (E)#665200); it has been repinned and had a few repairs and touches of paint. The left side of this specimen is illustrated by Tyler et al. (1994; pl. 58 O) and is cited as a type specimen; it compares well with original plate 349, figs B, B . Syntype ♀ with Felder label ‘ Surinam Coll. Lenep’ ( BMNH (E)#665031) is also a good match for original plate 349, figs B, B; the thorax is damaged and might have been re-pinned. There are two other possible syntypes : 1 ♀ with Felder label ‘ Surinam Coll. Lenep’ and printed Felder label ‘ Arbates Cram. ’ ( BMNH (E)#665030), thorax damaged but no clear evidence that it has been re-pinned; and 1 ♀ with Felder label ‘ Surinam Coll. Eyndhoven’ ( BMNH (E)#665033; re-pinned). These two lack the pale grey spot shown on the forewing. All these specimens have been touched up with paint. There are another 3 ♀ from the Felder collection, but these are considered unlikely to be syntypes; one is labelled ‘ Arbates Surin’ and with Felder label ‘ Surinam Mus. Leiden’ ( BMNH (E)#665032), the other 2 with printed Felder label ‘ Surinam’ (( BMNH (E)#665034–5). All three have been re-pinned.
Current status. Junior subjective synonym of Parides lysander ( Cramer, 1775) [ Tyler et al., 1994, attrib. arbates to Cramer].
