Lectotype male. Peru, Marcapata ( SDEI). Designated by Gaedike (1971:81). Examined. Gaedike did not mention the gender of the Lectotype, so we are here designating the male as Lectotype.

Measurements. total length: 15.1–18.2; head length: 1.9–2.3; head width: 3.0–3.6; pronotal width: 9.2–10.9; abdominal width: 8.2–10.0; length of antennal segments. I: 0.8–1.0; II: 1.8–2.1; III: 1.3–2.0; IV: 4.0–5.0; V: 4.9–5.4; interocular distance: 1.2–1.6; scutellum length: 6.9–8.4; scutellum width: 5.1–6.2; pronotal length: 3.1–3.7.

Diagnosis. Anterolateral margin of pronotum with incomplete solid black stripe. Cicatrices with concolorous punctures delimiting anterior sulci ( Fig. 18C View FIGURE 18 ). Anterolateral margin not punctured. Scutellum with anterior margin greenish yellow ( Fig. 18C View FIGURE 18 ). Body ventrally with dark lines faded ( Fig. 18D View FIGURE 18 ). Male ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 A–C). Pygophore with dorsal rim barely excavated subrectangular in the middle ( Fig. 2A View FIGURE 2 ). Superior process of genital cup elliptic with a ventral lobe; adjacent to dorsal rim. Paramere head almost flat ( Fig. 2B View FIGURE 2 ), margin black; anterior lobe rounded, elongated, almost reaching superior process; posterior lobe short and acuminated; stalk tumid with low carina on anterior lobe ( Fig. 2B View FIGURE 2 ). Proctiger with dorsolateral tuft of setae separated by large, slightly tumid ridge; posterior face subpentagonal with a medial crest ( Fig. 2B,C View FIGURE 2 ). Ventral rim deeply excavated between posterolateral angle and expansion of ventral rim ( Fig. 2C View FIGURE 2 ), showing paramere visible in lateral view; expansions slightly tumid, long, narrow, apices rounded, surpassing level of posterolateral angles in ventral view ( Fig. 2C View FIGURE 2 ). Female ( Fig. 2D View FIGURE 2 ). Posterior margin of gonocoxites 8 sinuous, inner angle rounded, projected over gonocoxites 9; sutural border strongly excavated in a narrow “U”. Gonapophyses 8 exposed, sclerotized.

Comments. Breddin (1904a) considered Edessa boerneri very similar to E. quadridens , but this similarity occurs among the species belonging to this group of species, as mentioned above. However, analyzing the genitalia of both sexes is possible to see that both species are really different. The pygophore of Hypoxys boerneri is quite unique in Hypoxys due to the exceptionally large lateral excavation and shape of ventral rim ( Fig. 2B,C View FIGURE 2 ). Gonocoxites 8 and sutural border of H. offuscatus and H. necopinatus ( Fig. 7D View FIGURE 7 and 6D View FIGURE 6 ) are very similar to H. boerneri ( Fig. 2D View FIGURE 2 ) and isolated females are hard to identify, especially in areas with sympatric distribution.
