Type species. Tettigonia tympanum Fabricius, 1803b ( Brazil) .

Remarks. The genus is spread over the neotropics with records from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guyana, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, and Venezuela ( Metcalf 1963a; Duffels & van der Laan 1985; Sanborn 2006a; 2007a; 2008a; 2010a; 2011a; 2011b; 2013).
