Type species. Cicada marginella Walker 1858a ( Orizaba , Mexico).

Remarks. The new species described here from Argentina significantly increases the range of the genus. The genus has an expansive but incomplete distribution with records of species being collected in Argentina, Belize, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Panama ( Metcalf 1963c; Sanborn 2006a; 2007b; 2009a; 2013).
