Genus Eurynodes Théry, 1934 View in CoL
Eurynodes Théry, 1934: 5 View in CoL (described as subgenus of Cylindromorphoides View in CoL ); 1936: 471; Obenberger, 1937: 1277; Blackwelder, 1944b: 335 (not as synonym of Cylindromorphoides View in CoL , erroneously reported by Bellamy, 2008: 2462; see Blackwelder 1944a: v); Cobos, 1979: 428 (elevated to genus); Bellamy, 1985: 428; Cobos, 1986: 12; Bellamy, 2003: 94 (gender feminine); 2005: 150 (gender masculine); Hespenheide, 2007: 2; Bellamy, 2008: 2462; Migliore et al., 2020: 18 (revision).
Type species, Cylindromorphoides cristatus Théry, 1934 , by monotypy.
The specimens of Eurynodes Théry stored in the collection of the SMTD are labelled by Théry with the name Ohausia ( Figs. 1F View FIGURE 1 , 2F View FIGURE 2 ), obviously an unpublished subgenus name of the genus Cylindromorphoides Kerremans, 1903 . However, Théry (1934) published the name Eurynodes instead of Ohausia . This concept was accepted by Théry (1936), Obenberger (1937) and Blackwelder (1944b). Cobos (1979) elevated Eurynodes to genus rank, and all subsequent authors have followed this opinion. The type species for Eurynodes is Cylindromorphoides cristatus and not Brachys coelestis Kerremans, 1897 , erroneously stated by Cobos (1979: 428) as already noted by Bellamy (2003: 94). Bellamy (2005) treated the gender of Eurynodes as masculine because of its ending with the suffix “odes” according to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature ( ICZN 1999, Article 30.1.4.4).
Currently known species of the genus Eurynodes are E. coelestis ( Kerremans, 1897) , E. cristatus ( Théry, 1934) , E. capillatus Migliore et al. 2020 and E. gemmatus Migliore et al. 2020 , all of which are known to be distributed only in Brazil.
