Hoodothrips lineatus (Hood) View in CoL
( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 16–21 )
Adults and larvae of Hoodothrips lineatus here examined were collected from bananas in 1969 in the state of São Paulo by Martinez (USNM). Judging from their location and year of collection, this material probably represents the specimens used to record the species as pest of bananas in Brazil ( Martinez & Palazzo 1971) without indication of identifier and vouchers in the original publication. These larvae are very similar to the ones collected by the present authors with adults of the conspecific E. brevisetis , and we were not able to find reliable differences to distinguish these species in the key above. The most obvious difference is the darker pronotal blotches in H. lineatus ( Fig. 19 View FIGURES 16–21 ), which are paler in E. brevisetis specimens, but it is not possible to be if this is not related either to the degree of sclerotization or the washing process of the specimens.
