Genus Aphanius Nardo, 1827 View in CoL

Formerly A. dispar View in CoL reported from central and southern basins of Iran, but recent studies showed that this species is not found in Iran ( Freyhof et al. 2017b; Teimori et al. 2018). Wildekamp (1993) reported A. mento in southern Iran near the border with Iraq and Abdoli (2000) showed this species is found in the Arvand River. In several field expeditions, we did not find any confirmable specimen of this species, all suspected samples belonged to other related species, such as A. sophiae View in CoL .
