Aphanius hormuzensis Teimori [A.], Esmaeili [H. R.], Hamidan [N. A.] & Reichenbacher [B.] 2018: [7]; Type locality: Mahran River, Gotab village, 15 km south of Bastak, Hormuzgan Province, Iran, 27°08'39.8"N, 54°15'46.1"E, elevation 330 m. Holotype: ZM-FISBUK 157. Paratypes: ZM-FISBUK.
Common name: Pr: Gormahi Krupp, En: Krupp tooth-carp.
Diagnosis: Number of males flank bars (12–18) vertical flank bars and two lunate black or brown bars on the caudal fin.
Meristic characters: D: 6–10, A: 6–10, P: 14–18, V: 6–8, LS: 25–31, GR: 14–17, FB: 12–18.
Distribution: Hormuz basins ( Fig. 483). Found in Khorgoo, Kol, Rasol, Gotab and Faryab Rivers.
Taxonomy: Aphanius hormuzensis was described from Hormusz basin ( Teimori et al. 2018) without considering any sample from A. kruppi in their analyses, even though it is from the same species complex. Due to this and to the closeness of both regions, until a proper convincing analysis is published, we consider A. hormuzensis a synonym.
Conservation: IUCN: Not Evaluated, PC: Least Concern. This species has numerous independent populations across its distribution range and has no widespread threat.
