Type Locality: Brazil, Santa Catarina, Joinville.

Vernacular Names: Broad-headed Spiny Rat.

Synonyms: Clyomys spinosus ( Winge 1887) .

Distribution: Between Minas Gerais and Santa Catarina (E Brazil) in savanna habitats.

Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc). Common.

Discussion: Highly fossorial and colonial. Karyotype has 2n=34 and FN=64 ( Yonenaga, 1975).
