Polytes lattini Eger , new species ( Fig. 92-94 )

Description. Dorsum black except following yellow to red markings: 4 evenly spaced macules on pronotum, median 2 oblong, lateral 2 subquadrate; 2 submarginal circular to oblong macules on anterior half of scutellum. Cicatrices and thin, median line on pronotum and scutellum also usually yellow to red. Dorsum infrequently brown, macules less distinct, additional vague, inverted, V-shaped fascia on scutellum also present; lateral margins of pronotum and connexiva with thin, pale band. Dorsal punctation dense, concolorous or dark in colored macules. Venter black, coxae and basal rostral segments brown; posterior margin of last abdominal sternite with large, pale, bilobed macule at meson. Venter infrequently dark brown, coxae and adjacent area on pleura, basal rostral segments, thin line laterally on propleura and abdominal sternites, pale. Length 7.2 -8.2.

Head broadly rounded anteriorly, short; length 2.0-2.1, width across eyes 2.5-2.7. Length of antennal segments 1-5: 0.5-0.6; 0.5; 0.5-0.6; 0.9-1.1; 1.2-1.3. Rostrum reaching or surpassing anterior margin of 3rd visible abdominal sternite.

Pronotum 2.3-2.4 long at meson, 5.0-5.2 wide across humeri. Anterolateral margins convex, flattened or with thin, marginal carina. Coxae pale to brown, remainder of legs dark brown to black.

Scutellum 4.5-5.2 long at meson, 4.4-4.6 broad at widest point.

Posterior margin of male genital cup slightly sinuous, shallow, mesial emargination present in dorsal and caudal views( Fig. 92 and93 ).Impression in floor of genital cup large,semicircular.Parameres hookshaped; head with smalltoothatapex ( Fig. 94 ). Remainder of male genitalia asinP. bicolor .

Type Material. HOLOTYPE: 6, labeled: Peru. Dpto. La Libertad; Cumpang; above Uctubamba . 2625 M.; 13 X 1979. L. J. Barkley ( FSCA). PARATYPES: Total of 5 66: 3 66 labeled same as holotype ( LHR, USNM, JEE); 1 6 labeled sameasholotype except 16 X 1979 ( BMNH); 1 6 labeled: Coll.R. I. Sc. N. B.; Perou Iquitos ; Janvier 1929 ( RISNB).

Distribution. Peru, known only from typeseries.

Comment. The male genitaliaofthisspeciesare very similar to those of P. bicolor andP. bullocki , but P. lattini is easily separated from thosespecies by the four pronotal maculesand bytheshorthead on the parameres. This species isnamedforJ.D. Lattin in honor of his contributionstoscutellerid systematics.
