Polytes bicolor Distant1911: 244 .

Description. Dorsum redbrownto black,scutellum red orange withbrowntoblackfasciaon anterior lA to V 5, fascia broadest mesially. Dorsal punctation dense, concolorous.Venterblack,posterior margin oflastabdominal sternitewithlarge, pale orange, bilobed maculeatmeson.Length8.2. Head broadly roundedanteriorly,short;length 1.7, width across eyes2.8.Lengthof antennalsegments 1-5: 0.6; 0.5; 0.5;1.0;1.2. Rostrumpaleat intersegmental sutures, nearlyreachinganterior margin of 2nd visibleabdominalsternite.

Pronotum unicolorous, somewhat darker than disk anteriorly and laterally, cicatrices and thin line along anterolateral margins pale; 2.2 long at meson, 5.0 wide across humeri. Anterolateral margins distinctly convex, flattened to finely carinate. Coxae, trochanters, and tarsi brown to dark brown, remainder of legs uniformly black. Propleura with thin, pale band on lateral margin.

Scutellum 4.8 long at meson, 4.3 broad at widest point.

Genital cup as in P. bullocki . Parameres hookshaped; head elongate, with small tooth at apex; shank short, relatively broad ( Fig. 91 ). First conjunctival diverticula thin, elongate, entirely membranous. Sclerotized apices of 2nd conjunctival diverticula short, stout, acute apically ( Fig. 88 and 89 ). Sclerotized apices of 3rd conjunctival diverticula uniform in width for most of length, apices denticulate, with small elongate hook; lacking distinct enlarged base ( Fig. 90 ).

Type Material. The holotype, a male in the BMNH, was examined.

Distribution. Peru, known only from holotype.

Comment. Polytes bicolor can be separated readily from other species in the P. fenestra group by the combination of a bicolored scutellum and a unicolorous pronotum.
