DIAGNOSIS. Amorbia revolutana is distinguished on the basis of the emarginated sacculus, wider costal fold, and differentiated scales (yellowish and curved) of the anal area of the HW.

DESCRIPTION. MALE. FW length 7.5–8.9 mm (mean = 8.4; n = 10). HEAD: Frons concave, white scaled, vertex scaling in two groups, ferruginous brown. Antenna with straw yellow scaling. Labial palpus ca. 2.0X length of inter-antennal space, brown laterally, paler on inner surface. THORAX: Dorsum smooth scaled, ferruginous; tegula concolorous with dorsum. FW ground light brown with basal, median, and subterminal fasciae and apex darker. Costal fold well developed, wide, reaching ca. 0.5 length of FW, spines on Sc vein. HW pale brown, scales in anal area curved and paler. Rs vein swollen in basal 0.33. ABDOMEN: DOR- SAL pit absent, a dorsal hump present on second segment. Genitalia as in Fig. 65 (slide # 2798352, INBio, Costa Rica, Puntarenas, Sirena; n = 20). Transtilla rectangular with fine spines. Valva subrectangular. Sacculus terminating before margin of valva, emarginate. Aedeagus stout, 0.5X length of valva, bent at ca. 0.75 distance from phalobase.

FEMALE. FW length 11.9–13.0 mm (mean = 12; n = 10). HEAD and THORAX: As described for male, except a patch of cream colored scales in discal cell and a line of cream colored scales at level of postmedian fascia. HW light orange. ABDOMEN: Genitalia as in Fig. 93 (slide # MCC7, INBio, Costa Rica, Heredia, Estación Biológica La Selva; n = 5). Sterigma not developed into lateral pockets. Ostium sclerotized. Ductus bursae 1.7X length of papillae anales, uniform in diameter throughout its length, posterior third sclerotized .

DISTRIBUTION AND BIOLOGY. Amorbia revolutana is known from Bolivia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Panama, and Venezuela ( Fig. 133). Records show flight activity in most months of the year.

IMMATURE STAGES ( Figs. 113–114). Egg patches are small and dark green. Larvae hatched in 13 days and developed on synthetic diet. Last instars are ca. 2.0 cm in length; the larval head is tan, with dark brown lateral bands; the prothoracic shield is tan with narrow lateral dark brown bands; the anal comb is absent. Development required ca. 9 weeks (JAP 99F67).

HOST PLANT RECORDS. Amorbia revolutana was reared from an unknown species of Rubiaceae and a Piperaceae ( Piper auritum ) (see Appendix III). The larvae are green with a tan to reddish head.

REMARKS. Amorbia revolutana was placed in synonymy of A. productana by Powell et al. (1995), but based on substantial differences in the male genitalia, the two are not conspecific. We did not find any difference between the male genitalia of A. revolutana and A. spilocryptis , and on this basis the synonymy of the two is proposed. Amorbia helioxantha Meyrick, 1917 was described from a female, and based on its genitalia and geographic distribution it could be conspecific with A. revolutana . However, until A. helioxantha males are found and studied, it is retained as a separate species.
