DIAGNOSIS. Amorbia colubrana is easily distinguished from other members of the group. It has modified, circular scaling on the vertex; the long third segment of the labial palpus forms a nearly 90º with the the second segment; the sacculus extends beyond the margin of the valva; and the aedeagus has a single external spine. Amorbia colubrana is superficially similar to A. cocori , from which it can be distinguished by the shorter costal fold in the male FW and the absence of emargination on the sacculus.

REDESCRIPTION. MALE. FW length 13.0–14.0 mm (mean = 13.5; n = 2). HEAD: Frons concave, unscaled, vertex gray and pale orange, scaling modified as a circle of smaller scales. Antenna tan with paler scales. Labial palpus segments I and II appressed to frons, junction of segments II and III forming a nearly 90º angle, concolorous with head scaling laterally, inner surface paler. THORAX: Dorsum smooth scaled, brownish; tegula concolorous. FW ground light brown, median fascia darker brown, reaching M stem, a semicircle of dark brown scales at costa from postmedian to apex, subterminal fascia including apex dark brown. Termen slightly produced. HW scaling straw yellow. ABDOMEN: Light brown, dorsal pit absent. Genitalia as in Fig. 77 (slide # EPR45, VBC, Ecuador, Carchi, Maldonado; n = 2). Transtilla rectangular, spines on posterior margin mostly confined to center. Valva subrectangular. Sacculus sclerotized, lacking emargination, 0.75X length of valva, distal tip extending beyond margin of valva. Aedeagus 0.7X length of valva, curved in middle .

FEMALE. Unknown.

TYPE MATERIAL. Holotype: Male : COLOMBIA: “EZ 66, 145. F. S. “ Columbien ” ( BMNH).

ADDITIONAL MATERIAL. ECUADOR: CARCHI: Maldonado , 2200 m, 1M, 9/ 11.i.1993 (V. Becker, VBC) . NAPO: Vía Sta. Barbara La Bonita , km 23, 2400 m, 1M, 7/ 9.iv.1986 (S. McKamey, EME) . PERU: CUZCO: Buenos Aires , 53 km W Pillcopata, 2280 m, 1M, 3/ 6.xii.1979 (J. Heppner, FSCA) .

DISTRIBUTION AND BIOLOGY. Amorbia colubrana has been found in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, above 2000 m elevation ( Fig. 135). Its biology and immature stages are unknown.
