Cephalaria microcephala Boiss., Diagn. Pl. Orient. View in CoL ser. 2(2): 123. 1856.
Type : [N. Iran] in fauce Dudera montis Elbrus Persiae borealis, 1.7.1843, Kotschy 422 (G-Boiss., G, W, WAG). (lectotype, here designated, G-Boiss!, G330273! [ Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ]; isolectotypes KEW!, WAG!, W) .
Original material of Cephalaria microcephala collected by Kotschy in 1843 has been located at G-Boiss (G00330273 [ Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ], G00360035, G00360036, G00360037, K 000779006, WAG0004290). Boissier (1856) cited these specimens from Iran in the protologue, but did not designate a type. Lack in 1983, examined some of these specimens and designated a G-Boiss specimen as the type on a determination slip, but apparently did not publish his choice.
We confirm that the G-Boiss specimen (Kotschy 422, G00330273) was certainly examined by Boissier and select it as the lectotype of Cephalaria microcephala .
