Pollex (Bilobiana) merisulawesii Fibiger, new species

Material examined.

Holotype: male, [ Indonesia, Sulawesi], Celebes SW, Tjamba, near Maros , 1500 ft, -. ii.1938, leg. J. P. A. Kallis, genit. prep. 3734 M. Fibiger, B.M. 1938-1910. Coll. BMNH.

Diagnosis.

Wingspan: 11 mm.

Forewing: narrow, blackish brown.

Transverse lines: black; terminal line marked by black dots between veins.

Reniform: distinct, white grey, outlined by black.

Hindwing: unicolorous dark brown with an indistinct black discal spot.

Underside: unicolorous dark brown.

Male genitalia.

Tegumen: narrow.

Vinculum: short, stout.

Saccus: V-shaped, long.

Fultura superior: Y-shaped with long narrow arms, medially fused with tegumen and ventrally with juxtaanellus.

Valve: shorter than wide.

Ampulla: long, club-like, broadest subapically; densely setose with long hair-like setae bent inwards.

Pollex : relatively short, ventrally directed, broad by base; outwards equally broad throughout; subapically and outwardly densely setose with long hair-like setae bent inwards.

Digitus: very long, slightly shorter than ampulla, tapered, curved, directed ventrally, apically pointed. Juxta-anellus plate: round, as wide as high, with a hole for phallus.

Phallus: long, slightly curved, slightly tapered towards apex; coecum narrow and short.

Vesica: with a rather large, straight, spine-like cornutus

Differential diagnosis.

P. merisulawesii differs from P.sulawesii by the ground colour of the forewing, V-shaped saccus, much longer digitus, pollex with a broader base, longer phallus, and the straight cornutus. See also the previous similar species, P. sulawesii .
