Measurements. Head length (1.4–1.6); head width (2.3–2.5); pronotum length (2.5–2.6); pronotum width (6.5–7.2); scutellum length (5.2–5.6); scutellum width (4.1–4.6); length of antennal segments (I: 1.1–1.5; II: 1–1.5; III: 2.1–2.5; IV: 2.6–2.8; V: 2.3–2.9); total length (11.3–13); abdominal width (7.3–7.8).

Diagnose. Head not punctured. Pronotum not rugose. Arms of the anterior bifurcation of the metasternal process ( Fig. 1 E View FIGURE 1 ) long and rounded apically, receiving fourth rostral segment almost entirely. Peritreme almost reaching half of the distance between ostiole of the scent gland and lateral margin of the body ( Fig. 8 A View FIGURE 8 ). Evaporatorium with a long and raised crest in mesopleuron delimited by sulci; contiguous margin of meso and metapleuron also raised; metapleuron with two distinct raised crests one short medial and the other long distal. Spiracles concolorous with abdominal sternites; trichobothria placed in light yellow callous. Antennae and legs spotless.

Male ( Figs 1 A–C View FIGURE 1 ). Superior process of the genital cup formed by a line of tiny brown tubercles. Basal part of the paramere wider than its distal portion, with two distinct globose lobes ( Fig. 1 C View FIGURE 1 ); distal lobe curved posteriorly.

Female ( Fig. 1 D View FIGURE 1 ). Gonocoxites 8 punctured with outline rounded; sutural border contiguous. Base of laterotergites 9 barely excavated.

Comments. Edessa viridula sp. n. is very similar to the other species of the group, except E. exigusternata sp. n., but they can be easily separated by length of the peritreme, shape of the paramere and gonocoxitos 8.

Distribution ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 ). Brazil: Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, São Paulo and Paraná.
