Erax jubatus Williston, 1885: 66 View in CoL .
Recognition characters: Brownish species: length 18–23 mm; mystax, black and white bristles intermixed; thorax compressed laterally, brownish gray pollinose with blackish stripe dorsally delimiting mane of black setae; marginal scutellar bristles 10 black; scutellar setae white or black; abdomen largely black, narrow posterior margins of abdominal tergites gray pollinose; in males, abdominal segments 6 and 7 silvery white pollinose; legs, femora black, tibiae and tarsi reddish brown.
Distribution: CARBON: Baggs, Savery, 2 Sept. 1959 ( DGR, WDG). TETON: Grand Teton National Park, 18 Aug. 1931 ( LDA, JON), 18 Aug. 1931 ( JON) (female specimen in CAS). Recorded from Wyoming by: Fisher & Wilcox (1997) (as Efferia jubata ); Geller-Grimm (2018); Hine (1919) (as Erax jubatus ); Wilcox (1966b) (as Efferia jubata ).
Habitat: Sagebrush steppe shrub and grassland, grama-needlegrass-wheatgrass, and grama-buffalo grass grassland vegetation types.
Ethology: Nothing known.
Prey: None known.
