Geographical distribution: southern Florida, United States, in the Nearctic region to the Netherlands Antilles in the Neotropical Region.

Material from Cuba: La Habana, Playa de Santa Fe, IX.1970, L. de Armas & L. R. Hernández. leg., several specimens (ESI). Camaguey, costa sur, Jardines de la Reina, IV.1971, L. de Armas. leg., several specimens (ESI) ( Alayo 1974).

Habitat: brackish or saline water on sheltered coastal areas.
