Geographical distribution: endemic to the Neotropical region, occurring from Mexico to Peru.
Material from Cuba: Sancti Spiritus, Lomas de Trinidad, no date or collector, 1 specimen ( ASLV) ( Alayo 1967, 1974). Santiago de Cuba, Sierra Maestra, afluente del Arroyo La Santana, no date, Zayas leg., no specimen number ( NHMC) ( Zayas 1986).
Habitat: collected in Cuba only in high altitude streams.
Comments. Alayo (1967, 1974) mentioned that the species is very common in streams located near the Gran Piedra Mountain, Santiago de Cuba, where E. beieri also occurs.
