Diagnosis of Heterorhabditis bacteriophora

The nematode isolates DH7, DH8 and CH 21 obtained in this study are morphologically very similar to the original nematode population that was used to describe H. bacteriophora ( Poinar 1971) ( Tables 1–3 View TABLE 1 ). Some minor morphological differences were observed. The anal swelling of present specimens was very prominent in both hermaphroditic and amphimictic females, while this structure was more prominent in hermaphrodites than in amphimictic females of the type nematodes used to describe the species. The rest of the morphological features were very similar to the specimens described by Poinar (1971). Isolate CH 21 was molecularly characterized. The isolate was unfortunately lost and therefore this isolate could not be included in other experiments.
