Diagnosis. The new species can be distinguished from its congeners by the forewing having a uniformly narrow black basal fascia, while such a fascia, if present, is usually narrowed from costal margin to dorsum; in the male genitalia by the relatively larger uncus almost as long as the socii, and the cuiller just exceeding the costa and inflated to before rounded apex.
Description. Adult ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1‒8 ). Wingspan 17.5‒23.5 mm.
Head with frons yellowish white speckled with black scales; vertex grey; occiput yellowish white, with black scales white tipped medially and laterally. Labial palpus yellowish white; basal segment black on outside; second segment mixed with dense black scales on outside and dorsal side, speckled with ochreous scales, scales on ventral surface longitudinally sulcate in middle, with protruding scales except base; third segment with dense black scales basally and before apex, with a longitudinal ochreous line ventrally. Antenna with scape black except yellowish white terminally; flagellum greyish brown.
Mesonotum yellowish white speckled with black basally, black distally; tegula black mixed with brown laterally, scales paler at base. Legs yellowish white; coxa of foreleg with black scales, tibiae of fore- and midlegs black with yellowish white and ochreous scales dorsally, tibia of hindleg ochreous, speckled with black dorsally, tarsi of fore- and midlegs black except yellowish white at apices of basal two and apical one tarsomeres dorsally, speckled with black ventrally, tarsus of hindleg mixed with black scales on outside of basal one tarsomere and black on rest of tarsomeres except yellowish white at apices; femora of all legs black dorsally, with ochreous and yellowish white distally.
Forewing brown beige, with dotted black scales; costal margin with ill-defined black spots; uniformly narrow black fascia at base of wing, continuously extending from costal margin to dorsum; cell with two erect, yellowish white spots near middle, tinged with a few black scales; large diffused black patch before outer margin of cell, with two erect, black-tipped yellowish white scale tufts in its middle; indistinct masses of black scales confluent with costal spots distally; fringe dark brown, paler at base. Hindwing and fringe grey.
Male genitalia ( Fig. 29 View FIGURES 24‒29 ). Uncus relatively larger, triangular, setose, almost as long as socii. Socii digitate, rounded at apex. Gnathos fusiform, finely spined. Valva wide at base, narrowed to before basal 2/3, distinctly narrowed from about distal 1/3 to rounded apex; costa sclerotized, reaching distal 1/4 of costal margin; ventral margin slightly concave below cuiller, slightly concave ventrodistally. Transtilla a uniformly slender band; transtilla lobes membranous, hairy. Sacculus reaching beyond 1/3 length of valva; cuiller narrow in basal 1/3, inflated to before rounded apex distally, just exceeding costa. Juxta peltate, sunken posterolaterally, forming two ovate hollows; lateral lobes differently dentated marginally, reaching beyond posterior margin of juxta. Phallus tubular, uniform in width except dilated base; cornuti being several bunches of fine spinules.
Female unknown.
Distribution. China (Chongqing, Henan, Hubei).
Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin hypodromus, referring to the peltate juxta sunken posterolaterally.
