Sempervivum ciliatum Schur (1853: 27) View in CoL , nom. illeg., non Willdenow (1809: 508)
Lectotype (designated here):— ROMANIA. Sibiu: “ Sempervivum campaniforme Schur = S. ciliatum Schur olim. Auf Kalkfelsen den Falkenstein in Zoodthale [Valea Sadului], hinter Riuszaduluj [Râu Sadului]. August 1847, Dr. Schur. ” Schur s.n. ( LW!, the specimen on the left). Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 .
= S. campaniforme Schur (1866: 229) View in CoL , nom. inval. (pro syn.) – in Hart et al. (2003) this name is incorrectly treated as synonym of S. globiferum View in CoL L. subsp. g lobiferum.
Notes:—The name Sempervivum ciliatum View in CoL appeared first in Schur’s checklist of the flora of Transylvania ( Schur 1853) as “ spec. incerta flaviflora rupestris affinis S. soboliferi Sims. , sed propagines desunt ”, without mention of a locality. This was expanded in Schur (1866: 229–230), where a full description and several localities were provided. All three specimens found in LW, listed below, were collected by Schur, and their labels report his handwriting and determination “ Sempervivum campaniforme Schur View in CoL = S. ciliatum Schur View in CoL ”. Their localities are the same as those provided in the protologue:
(1) “ Auf Kalkfelsen den Falkenstein in Zoodthale hinter Riuszaduluj [on limestone rocks of Falkenstein in the valley Valea Sadului behind Râu Sadului] August 1847 ”
(2) “ Auf Gneisfelsen auf dem Burgberge bei Michelsberg [on gneiss rocks of Burgberge near Cisnădioara] Juli 28. 1848 ”
(3) “ Auf der Kirchhofmauer in Grossau bei Hermannstadt [on the churchyard wall in Cristian near Sibiu] August 1849 ”
All the specimens represent original material and specimen 1 (the specimen on the left of the herbarium sheet) is selected here as lectotype of S. ciliatum .
