Lapposmittia Thienemann, 1939 View in CoL
Butler et al. (1980) lists a Lapposmittia larva from the tundra ponds near Utqiagvik. We found larvae of Lapposmittia parvibarba Edwards, Krüger & Thienemann, 1939 , the single representative of its respective monotypic genus, in two lakes near Utqiagvik, Alaska, among the thousands of small lakes that dot the Arctic Coastal Plain (AWQMS 2005). The species was initially described from pools in a birch wood forest in the Lapland region of Finland by Edwards et al. (1939).
