Gymnometriocnemus Edwards, 1932 View in CoL
Adults of two species of Gymnometriocnemus have been collected in Southeast Alaska: Gymnometriocnemus (Gymnometriocnemus) subnudus (Edwards, 1929) from a Margaret Creek tributary on Revillagigedo Island and Gymnometriocnemus (Raphidocladius) kamimegavirgus Sasa & Hirabayashi, 1993 from Thunder Mountain and Gold Creek in the Juneau area. Both species are new records for Alaska. We collected adults of the G. kamimegavirgus in July and October suggesting at least two generations per year. The larvae of Gymnometriocnemus species are mainly terrestrial occurring in humus-rich soils, meadowland, cultivated fields, and rotting potatoes (Anderson at al.2013). However, the larvae of some species in the subgenus Raphidocladius inhabit semi-aquatic environments in Norway ( Stur & Ekrem 2015).
