We collected Pseudorthocladius (s.s.) pilosipennis, the only species known from Alaska, on Harbor Mountain in Sitka ( Fig. 9R View FIGURE 9 ). This is a new faunistic record for the USA. We netted swarming adults above low bushes in early July. Saether & Sublette (1983) mention that several adult characters of this species suggest that it is a doubtful member of the genus and may well deserve a separate genus or subgenus. This apparent lack of diversity of this genus in Alaska contrasts with at least 15 species reported from the Southeastern United States ( Hudson et al. 1990). Larvae of Pseudorthocladius species tend to be collected in moist habitats of the streambank or floodplain.
