Quercus × tonduzii Seemen, Bull. Herb. Boissier View in CoL , sér. 2, 4(7): 656 (1904). Type:— COSTA RICA, Alajuela: A. Tonduz
10788 (Holotype: BR!; isotypes: A!, G!, M!, P (as s.n.)!, UCSB (fragment)!, US!). The type collection apparently involves hybridization between Q. benthamii and Q. costaricensis . Quercus seemannii Liebm. subsp. tonduzii (Seemen) A.E.Murray, Kalmia View in CoL 13: 27 (1983). Quercus seemannii var. tonduzii (Seemen) A.E.Murray, Kalmia View in CoL 13: 27 (1983). Distribution: Costa Rica.
Quercus × undata Trel., Mem. Natl. Acad. Sci. View in CoL 20: 86, pl 135 (1924). Type:— MEXICO, Durango: R. Endlich 1 (Holotype at B destroyed. Lectotype: image in Trelease (1924, pl. 135)! designated by Bacon et al. (2011)). No extant original material exists, so lectotypification of the name was based on the image of the holotype. This putative hybrid species is believed to involve introgression between Q. chihuahuensis View in CoL , Q. grisea View in CoL and Q. arizonica (Bacon et al. 2011) View in CoL .
Distribution: Mexico (Durango).
Quercus × warburgii A.Camus, Chênes Texte 2: 621, 793 (1939). Nom. nov. for Q. hartwegii f. glabra Trel. (1924) non Q. glabra Thunb. (1784) . This is a cultivated hybrid between the Mexican species Q. rugosa and possibly the European species Q. rubur L.
Quercus hartwegii Benth. f. glabrata Trel., Mem. Natl. Acad. Sci. View in CoL 20: 70 (1924). Type:—(Cult.): A. Henry 1 (Lectotype (designated here): ILL00007542 About ILL !; isolectotype: ILL!). According to Trelease (1924, p. 70) “A quickly glabrate form, f. glabrata , from which the catkins are described, is cultivated at Cambridge Botanical Garden in England (Henry) from acorns said to have been collected by Hartweg. ” There is no indication on either of the ILL specimens indicating which one Trelease considered the holotype.
Distribution: Cultivated plant in the United Kingdom.
APPENDIX 3. Distribution of recognized species of Fagaceae in Latin America by country and state for Mexico. APPENDIX4. Quercus interspecific hybrids and putative hybrids based on more than 19,000 Latin American collections examined by Breedlove. For hybrid collections that are listed by formula rather than as a named nothospecies, the first putative parent is the one to which the hybrid is morphologically closest. For hybrids that are the types of named hybrid species see Appendix 2.
