Type:— MEXICO, Puebla: F. M. Liebmann 3438 (Lectotype: C10013679 ! designated by Trelease (1924, p. 228,

pl. 382a); isolectotypes: C!, CAS!, GH!, K (as s.n.)!, L!, LE!, NY!, P (as s.n.)!, UCSB (fragment)!). The K and P

s.n. sheets are almost certainly syntypes as they are the right taxon from the right locality on the right date. Quercus acutifolia Neé var. furfuracea (Liebm.) Oerst., Chênes Amér. Trop. 28, pl. C, pl. 12(3, 3) (1869). Distribution: Mexico (Hidalgo, Michoacán, Oaxaca, Puebla, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas). The occurrence of Q. furfuracea in Querétaro reported by Villaseñor (2016) needs to be confirmed.
