Subgenus Datomicra Mulsant & Rey, 1874

Datomicra Mulsant & Rey, 1874: 387 (Type species: Homalota celata Erichson, 1837 ).

Datostiba Sawada, 1976: 18 (in Yosii & Sawada, 1976) (Type species: Atheta lewisiana Cameron, 1933 View in CoL ). New synonymy. See Schülke & Smetana (2015) for the detailed synonymy.

Diagnosis. Members of the subgenus Datomicra can be distinguished from other subgenera of Atheta by the combination of the following characters: body small; surface of head and pronotum more or less matt, with asperate punctation and finely reticulate microsculpture; antennae gradually dilated apically; antennomere 2 distinctly longer than 3; pronotum distinctly transverse, pubescence directed anteriorly in midline; hypomera usually partially visible in lateral aspect; flabellum not reduced; abdominal tergites II–III without anterior macrosetae in most, VII longer than VI; abdomen slightly narrowed at apex; median lobe of aedeagus parallelsided in lateral aspect; apical lobe of paramerites enlarged, convergent apically ( Fenyes, 1920; Benick & Lohse, 1974; Yosii & Sawada, 1976; Ashe, 2001).

Distribution. Worldwide.

Remarks. The subgenus Datomicra appears to share above the diagnostic characters with Datostiba including the shape and structure of aedeagus and spermatheca. Sawada (in Yosii & Sawada, 1976) first proposed the subgenus Datostiba based on macrochaetal arrangement of abdominal tergites. However, the macrochaetal arrangement is variable within the subgenus and represents intraspecific variation. The diagnostic characteristics was not sufficient to maintain the separation of Datostiba from Datomicra . Therefore, after studying a syntype of type species of Datomicra , Atheta (Datomicra) celata , and the holotype of type species of Datostiba , Atheta (Datostiba) lewisiana , the following synonymy is proposed: Datomicra Mulsant & Rey, 1874 = Datostiba Sawada, 1976 . New synonymy.
