Material examined. Forty-eight specimens: Hawaii ( USA), UMAR-Poly 63, 4 spec. (Hawaii inter-island cargo barge, HF-023, hull fouling community roughly two years old; barge only operates in Hawaii, coll. SG) . California ( USA), SERC s.v., 41 spec. Diagnosis. For a revised description see Bastida-Zavala and ten Hove (2003b).

Habitat. Depth: 0–1 m. Rocks on sandy bottom, fouling.

Distribution. Circum (sub) tropical. Mediterranean, Gulf of Mexico to Brazil, South Africa, New Zealand; California ( USA), to Baja California Sur ( Mexico), Hawaii ( Zibrowius 1971a, Bastida-Zavala & ten Hove 2003a-b).

Remarks. The wide distribution of H. diramphus is not limited to polluted areas, occurs in polluted and non polluted areas (cf. Bastida-Zavala 1993).
