Protis hydrothermica ten Hove & Zibrowius, 1986: 24–30 View in CoL , figs. 2b, 4a–b, 6. Type locality: 12º48.85’N, 103º56.60’W, off Western   GoogleMaps Mexico.

Diagnosis. Tube somewhat rugged, with a longitudinal ridge and two shallow grooves or ridges laterally. Operculum absent. Collar chaetae with several teeth in the middle section, without space between the denticu- late base and the serrate limb ( Fig. 8A); these collar chaetae are intermediate between the fin-and-blade chaetae of, for example, Salmacina , and the bayonet chaetae of, for example, Hydroides . Thoracic membrane wide, forming an apron across the abdomen.

Habitat. Depth: 2,447–2,620 m. Near to hydrothermal vents.

Distribution. Tropical Eastern Pacific. From three hydrothermal vent areas (approx. 1°, 13° and 21°N) (ten Hove & Zibrowius 1986).
