Notonecta (Notonecta) sp.

Notonecta glauca Linnaeus : De Carlini (1901: 78); Sangiorgi (1903: 92).

Published material. “Liscuri, Tzacarisiano” ( De Carlini 1901); “Lixuri, Tzacarisiana, Samos” ( Sangiorgi 1903).

Remarks. The published records are suspect because specimens were recorded from different localities and Sangiorgi (1903) indicated N. glauca as “comune [= common]”, but no records are listed for N. maculata Fabricius, 1794 , which is widespread on the island (see Material examined above). A misidentification with the latter species or N. meridionalis Poisson, 1926 seems extremely probable. As such, this species is excluded from the fauna of the Ionian Islands (see also the remarks under N. meridionalis from Corfu).
