Protarchus Förster, 1869: 201 View in CoL . Type species: Tryphon rufus Gravenhorst, 1829 (= Ichneumon testatorius Thunberg, 1822 ). Designated by Viereck (1914).

Zacalles Förster, 1869: 204 . Type species: Zacalles magnus Davis, 1897 . Designated by Viereck (1914).

Protarchoides Cushman, 1922: 25 . Protarchoides longipes Cushman, 1902 . Original designation.

Two species, Pr. sorbi ( Ratzeburg, 1844) and Pr. testatorius (Thunberg, 1822) , have been recorded from Japan. The body size of both species is relatively large compared to other genera of Japanese ctenopelmatines (usually more than 15 mm). In this study, I record P. sorbi from Honshu for the first time below.
