Revised description. Medium sized, slender shell with slightly gradate spire, of about 16 teleoconch whorls; apical angle ~20°. Protoconch unknown (from Paratethyan material). Early teleoconch whorls conical to subcylindrical with prominent orthocline axial ribs, separated by narrower interspaces. Subsutural band beaded, delimited by distinct groove. Later teleoconch whorls relatively low, subcylindrical with prominent, rounded to subquadratic beads on subsutural band, and broad, slightly prosocline axial ribs. Beads on subsutural band slightly shifted relative to axial ribs, typically situated between tips of axial ribs. Axial sculpture weakening on last whorl. Last whorl low, ~26% of total height, subcylindrical with rounded basal angulation. Base strongly constricted. Aperture moderately narrow. Fasciole broad, flat, smooth, adapically delimited by narrow carina. Columella twisted, excavated in adapical half, with two moderately prominent columellar folds. Anal canal indistinct. Outer lip thin. Siphonal canal moderately long, narrow, twisted, slightly deflected to the left.

Paratethyan synonyms. Terebra (Terebra) pseudopertusa badeniana Švagrovský 1982 ; holotype, Institute for Geology and Paleontology, PFUK, Bratislava, illustrated in Švagrovský 1982: pl. 6, fig. 1, Borský Mikuláš ( Czech Republic).

Discussion. Terebra neglecta is a poorly understood species because of the numerous misidentifications in the literature. It was often confused with Terebra acuminata Borson, 1820 .

The specimen illustrated by Michelotti (1847) is a moderately slender shell with a gradate spire and prominent axial ribs with the adapical tips being squeezed in between the concavities between the subquadratic beads of the subsutural band. This specimen does not differ from the Paratethyan shells illustrated herein and described by Švagrovský (1982) as Terebra (Terebra) pseudopertusa badeniana . Terebra neglecta differs from Terebra acuminata ( Borson, 1820) and Terebra tuberculifera Manzoni, 1870 in its distinctly less slender outline and a shorter spire and the prominent, regular axial sculpture. Moreover, it lacks the concavity of the whorls of Terebra tuberculifera .

Molecular data documented that Cinguloterebra Oyama, 1961 [type species Terebra hedleyana Pilsbry, 1905 , = Terebra adamsii E.A. Smith, 1873 ] is a junior synonym of Terebra ( Fedosov et al. 2020: 367) . Therefore, Cinguloterebra neglecta Poppe, Tagaro & Terryn, 2009 , established for a living species from the Philippines, became a secondary homonym of Terebra neglecta Michelotti, 1847 . To solve this problem, Terryn (2023) introduced Terebra philpoppei Terryn, 2023 as replacement name for the extant species.

Paleoenvironment. The species occurs in large numbers in clays of the Baden Formation, suggesting middle to outer neritic water depths ( Kranner et al. 2021), but is also found in coastal marine settings (e.g., Weinsteig, Harzhauser 2002).
