Terebra (Hastula) striata Basterot, 1825 View in CoL — Katona et al. 2011: 9, pl. 2, fig. 2 [non Hastula striata (de Basterot, 1825) ].

Type material. Lectotype of Terebra cacellensis (designated by Davoli 1977: 164) specimen illustrated by Pereira da Costa (1867: pl. 13, fig. 4); we are not aware of the whereabouts of the material.

Discussion. Strausz (1954, 1966), Csepreghy-Meznerics (1972) and Nikolov (1994) illustrated slender specimens with gradate spire, subcylindrical whorls, strongly reduced axial sculpture, a swollen, often slightly angulated subsutural band and a weakly angulated last whorl. Herein, we tentatively compare these shells with Terebra cacellensis Pereira Da Costa, 1867 as described by Davoli (1977, 1990) from the Tortonian of Italy. As we have not seen this material, the identification is preliminary.

Paleoenvironment. The Paratethyan specimens drive from agitated, shallow marine, nearshore deposits, such as those represented by Várpalota ( Hungary) (own data, M.H.).

Distribution in Central Paratethys. Badenian (Middle Miocene): Pannonian Basin: Várpalota ( Hungary) ( Katona et al. 2011); Bükk Mountains: Borsodbóta, Bóta ( Hungary) ( Csepreghy-Meznerics 1972); Dacian Basin: Pleven ( Bulgaria) ( Nikolov 1994).

Proto-Mediterranean Sea. Tortonian (Late Miocene): Po Basin: Montegibbio, S. Agata, Stazzano, Sogliano ( Italy) ( Davoli 1977, 1990).

Northeastern Atlantic: Algarve Basin: Cacela ( Portugal) (Pereira Da Costa 1867)
