Fustis sterlingi Fibiger View in CoL , new species

Material examined. Holotype: male, China, Hong Kong Island, Stanley , St. Stephen’s Beach, 0 m, 1.vii.2000, leg. M. Sterling, genit. prep. 4585 M. Fibiger, coll. BMNH.
Paratypes: 1 male and 1 female. 1 male with data as holotype ; 1 female, China, Hong Kong Island, Turtle Cove Beach , 0 m, 20.i.2003, leg. M. Sterling, genit. prep. 5840 M. Fibiger. Colls R. Kendrick and MF .
Diagnosis. Imago (external). Wingspan: from 7.5–9.5 mm (apo.).
Head, patagia, anterior part of tegulae, prothorax, basal part of costa, and costal upper patch of medial area: black.
Forewing ground colour: in male light grey, except black in medial area; in female black brown, especially dark in medial area (apo.).
Abdomen: grey and dark grey, with dorsal tuft on basal segment.
Crosslines: all lines present, subterminal line weak.
Terminal line: marked by black interneural dots.
Reniform stigma: distinct, yellow, ovoid or narrowly ovoid, black outlined.
Hindwing: in male light grey, in female grey; with indistinct discal spot.
Underside: forewing grey; hindwing light grey, with indistinct discal spot.
Male genitalia. Tegumen: stout; dorsal one third totally fused, platelike (apo.).
Vinculum: two-branched; anterior one barlike; posterior one similar.
Saccus: short; broadly U-shaped.
Ampulla: narrowly ovoid, dorsal end slightly longer than ventral.
Digitus: small, platelike.
Anellus plate: prominently asymmetrical; heavily sclerotised; spatulate; apically free, club-shaped, with rounded processes (apo.).
Phallus: coecum short, apically rounded; broadest by ductus ejaculatorius; smoothly and heavily curved to tip.
Vesica: unarmed.
Female genitalia. Ovipositor: short; smoothly rounded posteriorly and at corners.
Posterior apophyses: same length as ovipositor.
Anterior apophyses: half length of posterior.
7 th and 8 th abdominal segment: fused throughout; right lateral side narrow, gradually becoming 4 times Antrum: short, as wide as long, conelike (apo.).
Ductus bursae: membranous, long and narrow, 3 times as long as corpus bursae.
Corpus bursae: globular.
Appendix bursae: arising posteriorly from ductus bursae.
Signum: cross shaped, longitudinal bar relatively long.
Differential diagnosis. F. sterlingi differs from other Fustis species in:
- smallsize;
- grey and black ground-colour, with contrasting wing pattern;
- large, yellow reniform stigma;
male genitalia, in
- tegumen dorsally with large plate;
- ampulla lobes almost straight, ovoid;
- anellus clublike, with rounded processes;
female genitalia, in
- wide ostium;
- short, conelike antrum.
Distribution. F. sterlingi known only from China, Hong Kong.
